Kerala: Woman Set on fire by Friend in Thiruvananthapuram, Dies

In a shocking incident, a 46-year-old woman in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, lost her life on Tuesday morning, succumbing to over 90% burns inflicted the previous night. The assailant, a male friend of the victim, also suffered significant burns, currently undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

According to the Pothencode police station, the man visited the victim’s house, prompting her to step outside. An argument ensued, escalating to a horrifying act as the man poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. In an attempt to escape the spreading flames, he jumped into a nearby well, later rescued by fire and rescue personnel.

Both the victim and the accused were rushed to the hospital, but tragically, the woman could not survive her burn injuries, succumbing to them on Tuesday morning.

Initially, the case was filed under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by fire), and 447 (criminal trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). However, with the woman’s demise, the police are set to add section 302 (murder) after completing the inquest proceedings.

The motive behind this gruesome incident remains unclear. The victim, a widow, was residing with her daughter and mother. The police are conducting investigations to unravel the circumstances leading to this tragic and horrifying event.
