KKR gear up against RR in tonight’s match; LSG triumph against DC; Gaikwad equals Sachin’s record

Sunrisers Hyderabad lost two matches in a row, which dented their hope of progress and morale as well. The franchise played two games in Pune, two 200-plus run chases and two successive losses. What a coincidence? The Orange Army once again slipped after five consecutive victories and went down to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 13 runs.

CSK crossed the victory line easily thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s stellar knock of 99 in 57 balls. Gaikwad achieved a milestone by equaling the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the joint-fastest Indian to amass 1000 runs in the history of the IPL.

In another encounter of the day, Lucknow Super Giants thumped Delhi Capitals by six runs in a nail-biting finish. Mohsin Khan, the left-arm speedster, bowled like a champion, bagging 4 for 16 in his allotted four overs. Khan and other blowers, in the end, broke the hope of DC in the match. This victory put LSG in the second spot, just behind GT.

KKR to fact RR

Things are looking bleak for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with five successive losses, leaving them in eighth place on the table with three wins in their kitty. KKR haven’t found a settled unit with the niggles and inconsistency of some of the players. The team management always remains in a catch-22 situation when finding out the playing eleven before the match. One more disaster show on the ground and they will equal their 2019 record of six successive losses. The venue of tonight’s encounter will be  at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Five losses in a row

The below-par performances of Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, and others have made KKR a disjointed unit. The batting and bowling units of KKR are struggling to perform consistently. That is responsible for the string of losses the team has suffered.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are in a comfortable zone, placed in the third spot in the points table with six victories out of nine. Their loss against the Mumbai Indians has dented their morale to some extent. Never forget that cricket is full of uncertainty; they have a well-combined side. Jos Buttller is in remarkable form and ready to take all the pressure of the team’s batting.

Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and others are capable of disturbing the batting order of any team. The bowling unit of RR is replete with confidence. Batting of the team is not beihind Buttler and other batters have helped the team cross the line six times out of nine.

In head-to-head play, KKR leads with 13 victories, while RR has 12 wins.

The Wankhede track is full of dilemmas for the captains while taking decisions after winning the toss.

The last two matches there have been won by teams chasing. But the five matches before that were won by teams batting first. It seems that winning captains would like to chase in tonight’s encounter.

KKR and RR are both gearing up to win today’s encounter. KKR are in a do or die situation to keep their chance of going ahead in the tournament. RR will go all out to reach the second spot in the points table. Surely, an absorbing battle is on the cards. Fans are hoping to see another thrilling match tonight.
