Two senior members of the team, Mohammed Shami and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, have also been ruled out for the two-Test series against Bangladesh. Both are struggling with shoulder and knee injuries.

Opener Abhimanyu Easwaran has been included in the team as a replacement for Rohit. In the absence of Shami and Jadeja, two fast bowlers, Navdeep Saini and Jaydev Unadkat, as well as uncapped spinner Saurabh Kumar, have been called up to the squad.

The first Test of the series will start from December 14 in Chattogram, and the second Test will be played in Mirpur from December 22. Despite losing the series by a score of 2-1, the last ODI victory against the hosts must have boosted the morale of the Indian side. In this match, India not only crossed the 400-mark, but Ishan Kishan scored the fastest double hundred in the 50-over format, breaking the record of West Indian Chris Gayle.

Easwaran and left-arm spinner Saurabh have done extremely well in two games for the India ‘A’ side currently touring Bangladesh. While Saini represented India last time in the longest format of the game in the famous Test in Brisbane in January 2021. Left-arm pacer Unadkat played his last Test for India almost 12 years ago.
