Beijing: In China, a person carried out a massacre in a hospital with a knife in his hand. There are reports of 23 casualties in this attack. This incident has also been confirmed by Chinese media. It is being told that this attack took place around 11 am on Tuesday (7 May 2024), in which about a dozen people were injured.
China’s government news agency Xinhua had given initial information that at least 10 people have been killed or badly injured in this incident. However, reports from local media and other media outlets state that 23 people were targeted in this incident, out of which 2 died, so the death toll may increase. The condition of many of the injured is said to be critical.
This attack took place in Yunnan province located in the south-western part of China. Yunnan province shares borders with Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. This province is counted among the poorest provinces of China. There is a lot of smuggling into China and neighboring countries through the Mekong River that flows through here and it is considered the safest route for the spread of drugs.
According to the information, this incident happened in a hospital located in Zhenxiong County of Yunnan province. Government news site The Paper published photos of a man holding a knife towards another man holding a baton in the hospital lobby, as well as photos of police officers arriving at the scene.
Journalist Mario Naufal was quoted by AP as saying that the People’s Hospital in Zhenxiong County, Zhaotong City was targeted. Initially the attacker had also escaped, but the Chinese police arrested the attacker.

A local resident told The Paper, “The attack happened around 11 am… Efforts are still on to find out the actual number of people injured.
