Kohli and Bumrah to miss upcoming T20 series in West Indies

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced the name of the squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

Two prominent absences from the tour party will be Viral Killing and Jasprit Bumrah. Both players have been given rest to prepare themselves for the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia later this year.

KL Rahul is back in the side after a month due to a niggling injury. He has to pass the fitness test before he can board the plane. Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also once again got a recall, while leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has not got a berth in the team. Kuldeep Yadav has been selected for the Indian team after his finger injury.

Currently, Kohli’s form is the matter of discussion in the cricket fraternity. Experts are raising their fingers over Kohli’s place in the team. He hasn’t scored a hundred in the last two years. Legendary former players like Kapil Dev have questioned his place in the team.

The five-match T20I series against the West Indies will commence on July 29 and will continue till August 7.

India have also announced a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series in the West Indies. Shikhar Dhawan will lead the team while Ravindra Jadeja will be his deputy.

The ODI series will commence on July 22 in Trinidad. Indian stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Shami, and Hardik Pandya have been given rest in the ODI series.

The team GC management has been focusing on the upcoming T20 World Cup to be played in Australia later this year.
