Kolkata: The Kolkata Police were not ready to give any respite to illegal hookah bar runners. Therefore, police conducted raids all over the city a day after the West Bengal government issued a ban on hookah bars.
The Kolkata municipality took this decision to ban hookah bars due to its adverse effect on public health, especially among young people.
After the decision, the city police started raids to nab illegal hookah bars on Friday night. A total of three people have been arrested after raiding several restaurants and bars.
Kolkata police said, “Raids took place last night at a restaurant after receiving a tip from a credible source.” The restaurant, named “5 Point,” was running hookah bars at Bidhan Sarani. “One person was arrested, and a case has been registered at Tala police station under section 188/120B IPC r/w 20(2) COTPA act 2003.”
A detective team of Kolkata police made a raid at a restaurant famous as “Daddy’s Cafe,” situated in a posh area under Park Street police station, and two persons were arrested for selling hookah illegally to the general public. Regarding this issue, a specific case has been lodged at Park Street police station under Section 20(2) of the COTPA Act, 2003.
All the culprits who were arrested will be produced before the court on Saturday.
