K’taka Brahmin family accuses Shivamogga govt school of force-feeding egg to daughter, demands action

Shivamogga/Karnataka: An incident of forceful egg feeding to a Brahmin girl at a government school in Karnataka’s Shivamogga triggers outrage after the girl’s father reached out to the education department with a complaint in the matter. The incident took place at the KPS Primar School in Amrita village of Hosanagara Taluk on Thursday.

2nd Class girl’s father, Srikanth, alleged in his complaint that his daughter, a Brahmin, was forcefully made to eat an egg in the school. He added that this has hurt their religious sentiments as they were vegetarians and demanded stringent action against the headmaster and assistant teacher of the school.

The aggrieved father has also written complaint to the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) and former minister Araga Jnanendra seeking action against school.

“During the PTM, it was told that our daughter does not eat eggs. Despite being told that, a teacher named Puttaswamy has forced our daughter to eat an egg. Due to this our religious practices have been affected and it has affected our daughter psychologically,” Shrikanth wrote in his letter.

He also alleges teacher of threatening the students not to expose the incident to their parents. “My daughter was scared. She feared her teacher in her class and at home she was scared of our reaction after she told us that she had eaten an egg. The teacher used our caste and forced her to eat an egg to make a point that people of all castes can eat eggs. We have filed a complaint and are waiting for their response,” Shrikanth added.

To ensure healthy nutrition levels, the state government distributes eggs and bananas twice a week to among school children. Previously, religious activists had opposed the distribution of eggs on the school premises. The development has sparks massive controversy in the state.
