The Kashi Vishwanath (KV) Temple administration has clarified its stance regarding the potential implementation of a dress code for devotees visiting the temple in Varanasi.
In a statement issued, the temple administration explicitly stated that, currently, there are no dress restrictions for devotees entering the temple. This clarification came in response to an earlier statement made by Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust chairman, Nagendra Pandey, in which he mentioned that the trust would consider the proposal for a dress code for pilgrims during their next meeting.
The temple administration emphasized that no formal decision has been reached by the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust regarding the introduction of a dress code for devotees. The Trust had made a decision to provide two sets of dresses for archakas (temple priests), a move intended to enhance the temple’s splendor. However, this initiative was specifically for the temple’s priests and not for the devotees themselves.
Furthermore, it was clarified that the statement made by Chairman Nagendra Pandey following a press briefing on Friday represented his personal views on the matter. Pandey had mentioned that there had been requests from local residents, devotees, and members of the media to establish a dress code at the Kashi Vishwanath temple. This issue was expected to be discussed during a meeting of the Nyas, which was likely to be convened in November.
The KV Temple’s clarification reinforces the current status of no dress code for devotees, aiming to avoid any potential misconceptions regarding the temple’s attire regulations.
