Bengaluru: Leopards have wreaked havoc in some of Karnataka’s villages adjacent to forests. An 11-year-old boy was killed in T Narsipur Mysuru, due to a leopard attack.

The incident has also raised the eyebrows of Karnataka’s chief minister, Basavaraj Bommai. The CM on Sunday said that a special team will be constituted to nab the leopard and save lives. Instruction has been given to forest officials to intensify the search operations in the surrounding areas.

Speaking to the media persons, CM Basavaraj Bommai said, “All the essential steps will be taken to capture leopards, and watchmen will be deputed to nearby border areas to increase awareness among the people.”

The villagers have been asked not to go out of their respective houses after sunset. It is terrible that an 11-year-old boy died and places of three leopard attacks are situated within a 2 km range. The officials have been asked to escalate their searches in those areas where incidents are taking place at regular intervals.

CM Bommai also made an announcement that family members who lost the lives of their near and dear ones in the attack of wild animals will get better compensation. “The state government has taken the issue seriously and assured that the leopards will be captured as soon as possible,” added Bommai.

As per the forest officers, Jayanth, an 11-year-old boy from Horanahalli in T Narasipura went for defecation in the open on Friday at around 8 pm and was found dead on Saturday evening. This was the second death that occurred due to the leopard attack in the last four days and the fourth in three months.
