Licenses of 18 drug firms cancelled for manufacturing spurious medicines following an inspection by DCGI

New Delhi: The government has taken a big action against the pharma companies making spurious medicines and medicines of poor quality. The government has canceled the license of 18 pharma companies. Along with this, orders have also been issued to these companies to stop manufacturing. Out of these, the permission of special products of 3 pharma companies has been cancelled.

The Drug Controller General of India is running a special drive against spurious and substandard medicines. DCGI has investigated 76 pharmaceutical companies. The team took this action in 20 states. DCGI has also issued show cause notices to 26 pharma companies. This campaign is being run for about 15 days.

Let us inform that before this, a notice has been sent to Amazon and Flipkart regarding medicines on behalf of the Drug Controller General of India. In this, it has been written that Amazon and Flipkart have violated the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940. This notice has been given to about 20 companies including Amazon and Flipkart selling medicines online. It has been asked in the notice that for the last several years, the court has banned the sale of medicines online several times.

The DCGI has asked why action should not be taken against him for this violation. No official statement has been given by Amazon and Flipkart yet on DCGI’s notice. According to DCGI, the sale of medicine without a valid license online has a bad effect on its quality. In such a situation, keeping in mind the health of the people, DCGI has taken this step.

Let us tell you that a few days ago, the Delhi High Court had found three e-pharmacies selling medicines without valid DGCI license. The drug controller was asked to take action in this matter.
