Xi Jinping Address: During his speech, Xi Jinping said that during the Corona epidemic, most of the frontline workers, doctors, people working at the ground level worked courageously in the face of difficulties.
Beijing: The new year 2023 has started. The whole world is immersed in the celebration of the New Year. But since the beginning of the new year, China is facing new challenges due to the increase of Kovid infection. Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his New Year’s address on Saturday that China was facing “difficult challenges” as the country’s COVID-19 infection spread rapidly. President Xi Jinping in his New Year message to the nation said that we have now entered a new post-Covid phase where tough challenges remain.
Terming Covid as a “difficult challenge”, he said that we have overcome difficulties and challenges in the past with extraordinary efforts and will continue to do the same.
Three years after the coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Beijing this month began ditching its hardline containment policy known as “zero-Covid”.
Chinese hospitals have since been hit by a flood of mostly elderly patients, crematoriums have been overloaded and many pharmacies have run out of fever medications.
On Saturday, China reported more than 7,000 new infections and one death linked to Covid but the figures appear to be out of step with the reality on the ground.
The Covid numbers have become unreliable as it counts Covid deaths only as cases of people who died of respiratory failure induced by the virus after testing positive with a nucleic acid test, rather than other countries, which include all deaths within 28 days of positive tests.
As per multiple reports, hospitals are out of Covid-specific drugs, medication for cough are being given to patients in fever clinics and China’s domestic Covid vaccine remains ineffective against new Omicron variants such as BF.7 that is driving the massive surge.
In his address, Xi Jinping said with extraordinary effort, China has prevailed over unprecedented difficulties and challenges and it “has not been an easy journey for anyone”.
