Light rain in Bengaluru, IMD issues yellow alert for five districts

Light rain in Bengaluru, IMD issues yellow alert for five districts

Bengaluru: A yellow alert has been issued for Bengaluru by the Indian Meteorological Department, indicating the forecast of moderate rain in the city on Monday. The department has also cautioned the residents about possible weather disturbances and possibility of power cuts in some areas of the state due to the rains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkaballapur, Kolar and Mandya districts will receive light rain and has issued a Yellow Alert for these areas.

The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with a speed of 30-40 kmph till 4.30 pm on Monday. Additionally, the department has warned about possible traffic disruptions and advised precautions to be taken to prevent accidents during inclement weather.

The IMD also cautioned that temporary power disruptions may occur in some areas, and there could be minor traffic disruptions. Additionally, it said that damage to vulnerable structures such as ‘kuccha’ and unsecured buildings could occur, along with the possibility of weak trees being uprooted. The department advised people to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety during this period.

Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened a meeting with all district collectors, urging them to make necessary preparations for the coming monsoon season. He stressed the importance of proactive measures to reduce potential risks. At the same time, the Chief Minister issued a stern warning and said that if any accident happens due to the negligence or irresponsibility of the officers, strict action will be taken against them.
