Visakhapatnam: Natural calamities can take place anywhere, which brings lots of disasters. A lightning strike killed a shepherd as well as about 50 cattle at Injari panchayat of Pedabayalu mandal in Alluri Seetarama Raju district in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. Casualties due to lightning incidents are common in AP, but this may be the first case when a huge number of cattle along with a shepherd died due to lightning on a single day.
The deceased has been identified as Vantala Sunny Babu, 32, of Jamadangi village in Injari panchayat. He is survived by his wife, two children, and his parents.
As per the police, the victim, Sunny Babu, took his cattle to a hill for grazing. He went there with another villager. A heavy downpour and a thunderstorm caught them on the way to the hill. Suddenly, lightning struck the deceased, and he turned unconscious with severe burns. His 25 buffaloes were killed on the spot by the force of lightning.
Villagers tried to take the deceased to a nearby hospital, but he died.
The other 25 buffaloes belonging to shepherds Vantala Rammurthy, Killo Matsya Padal, and Kumuru Ramnaidu were also killed in the severe lightning strike. The southwest monsoon is currently active, and several parts of the country are experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms. Officials have already issued a warning about the occurrence of lightning.
