Lok Sabha membership of NCP leader Mohd Faizal restored, lost after being found guilty in murder case

A court in Kavaratti convicted NCP MP Mohd Faizal in a murder case and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. However, his sentence was stayed by the Kerala High Court in this case.

New Delhi: Lok Sabha membership of NCP leader Mohd Faizal has been restored. The Lok Sabha Secretariat gave this information by issuing a notification. With this, Faizal is again on the post of MP from Lakshadweep. Significantly, Faizal had also filed a petition in the Supreme Court in this matter, on which the hearing is going on.

A court in Kavaratti convicted NCP MP Mohd Faizal in a murder case and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. Under the Representation of the People Act, the membership of a Member of Parliament or a Member of the Legislative Assembly is canceled if the punishment is two years or more. In such a situation, the parliament membership of Mohammad Faizal was canceled under the law. On January 11, 2023, the court convicted Mohammad Faizal of murder and sentenced him to death and on January 13, the Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a notification disqualifying him for membership of Parliament.

At the same time, against the decision of the local court, Mohammad Faizal filed an appeal in the Kerala High Court, from where his sentence was stayed on 25 January. After this Mohammad Faizal demanded from the Lok Sabha Secretariat to restore his membership of Parliament but despite saying many times, yet Mohammad Faizal’s Parliament membership has not been restored.
