Bengaluru: A lookout notice has been issued by the Karnataka Police for Lingayat seer Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, who is allegedly involved in a case of child sexual abuse. The notification was sent out as a precautionary measure.
A lookout notice (LOC) or circular (LOC) is published to ensure that a person who is absconding or wanted by law enforcement agencies is not able to leave the country. All immigration checkpoints, including those at international airports and seaports, have received the alert against the seer.
Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru is the chief pontiff of a prominent Lingayat mutt in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district.
When the news of the rape by mutt seer was unveiled, protests took place at several places for the seer’s arrest. The Karnataka Police came into action and arrested the chief warden of the school hostel, run by the mutt, in the sexual assault case on Thursday. This is the first concrete action by the police regarding the case.
Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru has been booked under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. For over three and a half years, the seer sexually abused both minor girls, ages 15 and 16. They were studying at the school run by the mutt, but unfortunately were sexually abused for over three years.
The victims had vacated the hostel on July 24 and were reached at Cottonpet Police Station on July 25. On August 26, an FIR was registered at Nazarbad Police Station in Mysore against the Lingayat seer.
