The match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) went to the wire yesterday night. The RR players were mentally tougher and kept their nerves till the end, winning the match by seven runs. Buttler and Chahal demonstrated grit with bat and ball, giving RR a much-needed victory and putting their team in second place in the points table.
Jos Buttler, who scored a hundred, helped his team put on a mammoth total of 217 runs. KKR almost chased down the target but failed to finish in the end. Yuzvendra Chahal short-circuited the hope of KKR, taking wickets at regular intervals to check the run rate. His fifer deprived KKR of crossing the line. Later, he was adjudged player of the match.
The action-packed IPL is a source of entertainment for cricket fans all over the world. Another day and a fresh match on the card tonight between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai.
LSG and RCB have been occupying third and fourth place, respectively. Both sides are tied at eight points, but LSG is ahead due to a better run rate.
Similar journeys for both teams
The journeys of LSG and RCB in this season’s IPL have been strikingly similar. Both franchises started their campaigns with a loss and then came back like wounded tigers and registered three victories in a row. They went down to the next game, and emerged victorious in the subsequent match.
Both franchises will step down on the ground with one objective in their minds, and that is victory, intending to improve their position in the points table.
RCB has been facing the issue of the failure of top orders. The bats of the current captain, Faf du Plessis, and his predecessor, Virat Kohli, are not firing, having scored just one fifty-plus score in the 12 innings between the two stalwarts. This IPL has proved a waterloo so far for Kohli. His scoring sequence reads 12, 5, 48, 1, and 12. It looks like the score of a lower order batter.
Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik are big bets for RCB. Karthik is in fabulous form and is looking to continue his form in tonight’s match. RCB’s bowling has been given a shot in the arm by Mohammed Siraj’s much improved show in the previous game.
KL Rahul has been leading the side from the front. He has left no stone unturned in raising the LSG’s performance. His hundred against MI will have certainly boosted his confidence.
Marcus Stoinis, the allrounder, has not disappointed the team management with his promising display in the last two encounters. Manish Pandey is back in touch after getting some runs in the previous match. Overall, informed players boost the confidence of the side. The bowling of speedster Dushmantha Chameera is a concern for LSG, proving quite expensive. He needs to tighten things up.
Most teams prefer to chase in the evening fixtures. But the last two evening games have gone in favour of teams batting first. It seems toss is not going to play any role in tonight’s encounter.
Both sides appear to be well-balanced and eager to give more than their all in order to advance in the tournament. Like last night, another absorbing match is to be kicked off at 7:30 pm. Prepare for an exciting encounter.
