Lucknow: Senior UP cop 10-year-old son dies after being hit by car while skating, two arrested

Lucknow: At least two persons were arrested in a case involving death of the a senior police officer's 10-year-old son. According to the information, the son was died after being hit by a speeding car when he was learning to skate with his coach in Lucknow on Tuesday. Police said that the SUV, which had allegedly hit the child was also recovered.

Lucknow: At least two persons were arrested in a case involving death of the a senior police officer’s 10-year-old son. According to the information, the son was died after being hit by a speeding car when he was learning to skate with his coach in Lucknow on Tuesday.

Police said that the SUV, which had allegedly hit the child was also recovered. The arrested two accused was college students identified as Sarthak Singh (20), a BA LLB student from a private university, and his friend Devshree Verma (22), a BTech student.

According to the police report, the deceased identified as Namish. He was 10-year-old, son of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shweta Srivastava, posted in police headquarter Lucknow, was hit by a vehicle due to which he died.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ashish Srivastava said that the incident took place at around 5.30 am in Gomti Nagar extension area after which the child was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. Five police teams were formed to solve the case. DCP Ashish Srivastava said that after watching the CCTV footage of the incident, a white SUV that hit the child has been recovered and two persons identified as Sarthak Singh and Devshri Verma have been arrested.

A senior police official said that the duo were racing with each other in an SUV 700 to see who could drive faster. Turn by turn, both drove the SUV at a speed exceeding 100 km/hr. It was when Sarthak took over and drove the SUV at over 120 km/hr that he lost control and hit the 10-year-old boy. After this police said that a case has been registered against them under sections 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the IPC.
