Bhopal: Three individuals have been identified in a police case in the communal violence in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani area earlier this month, raising doubts about the police investigations in the rioting case. They are accused of attempted murder and have been in jail since March. One of the guys had lately experienced the wrath of the district government, which had purportedly demolished his home on the grounds of illegal construction.

The three men have been in custody since their arrest last month on charges of lighting a motorcycle on fire on April 10 in Sendhwa, Barwani district, one of the two areas where communal riots occurred on Ram Navami.

They were charged with attempted murder at the same police station where the attempted murder case was filed.

When questioned about the omission, police officers stated that the case was filed based on the complainant’s account.

“We will investigate the matter and take his information from the jail superintendent, the case has been registered on the basis of the allegations of the complainant,” senior police officer Manohar Singh said.

Shabaz, Fakru, and Rauf have been identified as the three suspects. All three are being held in custody for an attempted murder charge filed against them on March 5.

Shahbaz’s mother Sakina has alleged that her house was vandalized after communal clashes and no notice was served to her. “The police came here, my son is in jail for almost one and a half months. He was arrested after a fight but the police came threw us out, my child is in jail so I want to ask why the FIR was registered against him. We told the policemen that he is jail but no one was ready to listen to us. We folded our hands, apologized. They have taken my younger son also,” she said.

The district administration and police demolished illegal houses of individuals engaged in the attack on the Ram Navami procession on Sunday, following the Chief Minister’s orders.

The officials used a bulldozer to destroy roughly 45 homes and businesses. On Monday, 16 residences and 29 stores were destroyed.

After stones were hurled during a Ram Navami procession travelling through Khargone and Barwani, violence erupted.
