After a two-day rescue operation involving the State Disaster Emergency Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, and local administration, the lifeless body of six-year-old Mayank Kol was discovered on Sunday in a borewell near Manika village, situated close to the Uttar Pradesh border.
Mayank fell into the open borewell while playing on Friday afternoon, getting trapped at a depth of approximately 40 feet. Despite the concerted efforts of the rescue teams, including the deployment of eight JCB machines to dig a parallel pit, the operation encountered challenges due to water and rocky terrain.
NDRF deputy commandant Prem Kumar Paswan recounted the difficulties faced during the operation, including the need to stop drilling after encountering water at a depth of over 60 feet. Subsequently, manual excavation was initiated to reach Mayank, but tragically, he was found unresponsive when the rescue team reached him around 1:45 pm on Sunday.
Expressing condolences, the Chief Minister announced the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of Janpad Teonthar and the Sub Divisional Officer of Public Health Engineering, Teonthar. Additionally, he assured the family of the deceased child of Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia from the Red Cross fund.
