Mumbai: Horrific fire incident unfolds at Tathawade area of Pimpri Chinchwad city of Maharashtra on Sunday night after multiple LPG cylinders exploded, triggering a panic among local people, as per the fire officials. According to police and officials of the fire department, it is suspected that LPG was being illegally filled into the cylinders from a tanker. A couple of buses belonging to a nearby college also caught fire due to the explosion, they said. No casualties were reported due to the incident.
The incident occurred around 10:30 pm and preliminary information suggests that four to five LPG cylinders exploded, the officials said.
Police and fire department officials said that it is suspected that the accident occurred when LPG was being illegally filled in the cylinders from the tanker. Pimpri-Chinchwad fire department officials said that six fire tenders are present at the spot. At present the situation is under control. He said that after the explosion, some buses of a nearby college also caught fire.
The tanker containing the LPG, however, remained unaffected, they added.
An official from the Pimpri Chinchwad fire department said that fire engines and water tankers were immediately rushed to the spot and they successfully brought the fire under control. He said that the loud explosions caused panic among the local people.
