Mumbai: In a horrific incident, a 46-year-old woman who is undergoing treatment for mental health strangled her 11-year-old daughter to death and tried to die by suicide by slitting her wrist with a knife in their rented apartment in Mumbai on Thursday night. According to the police, the incident was informed by her husband in Kasturba Police Station, after which it rushed to the spot.

After reaching the house, the police found the woman, recognised as Rekha Solanki, lying in a pool of blood on the floor. Her daughter was lying nearby with a dupatta around her neck. Sharing further details, the police said that the woman had been undergoing treatment for mental illness for the last ten years and had skipped her medicines for the last three days.

While the daughter Ruhani Solanki was declared dead after she was taken to Shatabdi Hospital for treatment, her mother Rekha (46) was still alive. Her medical treatment has already started in the hospital. As soon as the incident was reported, local police swiftly sent the body for post-mortem. A case has been registered under sections 302 and 309 of IPC against the woman. Further investigation is underway in the case, said Kasturba Police.

Meanwhile, in another unfortunate incident reported, a man allegedly killed his 22-year-old wife in the Kanjurmarg area of Mumbai. The accused, who used to work as a tempo driver, was later arrested by the police from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district. The police, while sharing the incident, had also said that couple might have had an altercation that perhaps led to the killing. However, the exact reason behind the murder was unknown.
