At least six people have died after a mini bus they were travelling in fell into a gorge in J&K’s Poonch district on Wednesday.

9 deaths have been confirmed so far, while several others are said to have been injured in the accident.
The accident took place in Sawjian-a village of Poonch district. Visuals from the accident spot that have surfaced on social media show locals gathered in large numbers around the bus involved in the incident lying damaged after falling into the gorge.

Locals and administration are carrying out a rescue operation to pull out the survivors.

The officials said a joint rescue operation by the Army, police, and local villagers was underway.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and announced ₹ 5 lakh financial assistance for the family members of those who died.
“Saddened by loss of lives due to a road accident in Sawjian, Poonch. Condolences to bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. ₹ 5 lakh would be given to the next of kin of deceased. Directed police and civil authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured,” Mr Sinha tweeted.
