The Indian cricket team's Asia Cup campaign suffered a major blow as all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja sustained a right knee injury, Axar Patel will be his replacement.
Dubai: The Indian cricket team’s Asia Cup campaign suffered a major blow before the team’s upcoming crucial matches as ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja sustained a right knee injury. Therefore, he was ruled out of the remaining matches of the T20 tournament.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee has inducted Axar Patel as his replacement in the ongoing T20 Asia Cup. The medical unit of the BCCI has been monitoring the nature of Jadeja’s injury.
Earlier, Axar Patel was named as one of the standbys in the squad; he is expected to join the team in Dubai soon. Jadeja’s injury is a big blow to the men in blue as he played a fine knock against Pakistan which helped the team to beat its arch-rival by five wickets in the Asia Cup 2022 opener.
Jadeja had left pacer Irfan Pathan behind to become India’s leading wicket-taker in the history of the Asia Cup tournament. He achieved this unique feat during India’s second match in the Asia Cup against Hong Kong in Dubai. He has so far got 23 wickets in his kitty across six Asia Cup tournaments.
Team India has depth in all departments of the game. But it is difficult to fill Jadeja’s absence. In fact, Axar Patel is equally talented and capable of turning the complexion of the match with his batting and bowling. The mood of the team is upbeat and ready to face any opponent.
India’s squad for the Asia Cup: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan
