Kolkata: Just before the Bengal assembly elections, state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made a big announcement about the Covid-19 vaccine. The CM has reportedly announced that the people in her state will be given free of cost Corona vaccine. To insure this ambitious project the Government is making arrangements at all levels.
Meanwhile, the central government is also preparing to introduce Covid-19 vaccination from 16th January across the country. The priority will be given to health workers, frontline workers, which as per an estimation, compromises 3 crore population.
Mamata’s announcement regarding free Covid-19 vaccine is considered to be very important before the assembly election in Bengal this year. To avail free vaccine to all her state people, Mamata has also issued a government order regarding the same. Meanwhile, dry runs are being carried out in Bengal as well as all over India these days for vaccination. Last week, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had said that 3 crore front liners would be given this vaccine free of cost.
However, in the present scenario, it is not clear whether the rest of the people of the country will have to pay for it or not. As of now, it has been said that the State Governments will determine whether they will provide free vaccine to their people or they will be charged for it. To note, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has allowed emergency use of Corona vaccine in India last Sunday developed by the Serum Institute of India’s Covid Vaccine and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.
