Minister Babul Supriyo Transferred from Tourism to Information Technology & Electronics and Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Departments
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has undertaken significant changes in her Cabinet, including the transfer of Babul Supriyo from the tourism department to the information technology & electronics sector and the department of non-conventional and renewable energy sources.
The cabinet reshuffle was carried out in preparation for her foreign visit, starting on Tuesday, to enhance foreign investments in West Bengal.
Banerjee confirmed this development to reporters at the state secretariat on Monday, mentioning that the governor had given his approval for the changes.
This cabinet reshuffle follows the last one in August 2022, which occurred after the arrest of Partha Chatterjee, who was then a minister and the Trinamool Congress’ state secretary general, by the Enforcement Directorate in July of the previous year.
Indranil Sen, another singer-politician who was previously the minister of state for the technical education, training, and skill development department, has taken over as the head of the tourism department, replacing Supriyo.
Jyotipriya Mallick, the state forest minister, has been given additional responsibility for the industrial reconstruction and department of public enterprise.
Furthermore, Pradip Mazumdar, the state panchayat minister, has been entrusted with additional responsibilities for the cooperative department, and Arup Roy has been assigned to oversee the department of food processing and the horticulture department.
