Kolkata: Partha Chatterjee has hit the headlines because of his involvement in corruption. Currently, he is known across the country for the wrong reasons.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee removed Partha Chatterjee from all ministries on Thursday. She claimed that the Trinamool Congress is “extremely tough.” The ED is conducting the probe in relation to irregularities in the recruitment of government teachers while he was the education minister.
Mamata Banerjee said, “Because my party is a disciplined party, I have freed him [Partha]. If someone believes that they can change perceptions by doing this, they are wrong.
Due to tremendous pressure from the opposition over allegations of corruption, Mamata dismissed Partha Chatterjee as a minister on Thursday. He was in charge of the Ministries of Information Technology and Electronics, Parliamentary Affairs, and Industry, Commerce, and Enterprise. Now, the chief minister is in charge of all three portfolios.
Partha Chatterjee has been facing a probe into the West Bengal school teacher recruitment scam. He is currently under the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the money laundering angle in the scam.
The agency conducted a massive search operation last week during which it discovered large sums of money from a close associate of Partha’s, Arpita Mukherjee. Following the recovery of a huge amount of cash, he was arrested, and later Arpita too was nabbed as well.
Reacting to the development, BJP’s Amit Malviya said Mamata Banerjee had no option except to dismiss Partha Chaterjee because everything is crystal clear.
