Man caught smoking in Air India flight denied bail, goes to jail

A man accused of unruly behavior and smoking on an Air India flight was sent to jail after a Mumbai court refused to pay Rs 25,000 for bail. The accused said that the fine of the IPC section under which the fine has been imposed is not that much.

The accused told the court that he had read online that the fine payable under section 336 of the IPC was Rs 250, which he was willing to pay, but not the bail amount. After this, the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate sent him to jail on Monday.

A court has granted cash bail to accused Ratnakar Dwivedi, but he refused to pay the amount and told the court on Monday that he was ready to go to jail. He was charged under Section 336 of the Indian Penal Code after he was caught allegedly smoking and behaving unruly in the toilet of an Air India London-Mumbai flight on March 10.

Air India had said that a passenger was found smoking in the lavatory of the aircraft and behaved in an unruly and aggressive manner despite repeated warnings.
