Kanpur: Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur arrested a man for staging his own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of Rs 30 lakh from his own father. The man posing as a kidnapper sent a WhatsApp message to his father and demanded a ransom. In addition, he also threatened that if the money wasn’t paid, his son would be sliced into 300 pieces.
Chandrakant Tiwari, a resident of Kanpur’s Damodar Nagar, Barra area, went to the police station after receiving a WhatsApp message on November 14.
In his complaint, Chandrakant claimed that his son, Somnath Tiwari, worked in the irrigation department. He went to work early on November 13 and never came back. The same story repeated itself the next day in the evening when he, his wife, and daughter-in-law received a similar kind of WhatsApp message, which read, “If you want to see your son and husband alive, then arrange Rs 30 lakh by 4 pm tomorrow.” Don’t approach the police; otherwise, your son will be cut into 300 pieces.”
The police came into action and registered a case on the basis of the complaint and started a probe to reach the accused.
Pramod Kumar (DCP South, Kanpur) said, “Within 24 hours, it was revealed that the story was fake and Somnath Tiwari had staged his own abduction.” He was staying at Hotel Tejas Inn, located in Ghataghar. He sent several fake pictures to his family members to make sure that he was really held hostage. However, police have arrested the guilty party.
