Maneka Gandhi, the senior-most Member of Parliament (MP) from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressed her pride and excitement as the Parliament session commenced in the new building, calling it a historic day.
New Delhi: Maneka Gandhi, the senior-most member of the Lok Sabha and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, marked the commencement of the Parliament session in the new building as a momentous occasion. She expressed her pride in being part of this historic moment and anticipated that the impressive new edifice would embody the aspirations of a new India.
Addressing the Central Hall of the old Parliament building, Gandhi acknowledged the significance of her role as the most senior parliamentarian in the Lok Sabha. She recounted her extensive experience, having served as an MP since her first election to the Lok Sabha in 1989. During her tenure, she witnessed the leadership of seven Prime Ministers and the shaping of significant historical events.
Gandhi also reflected on her political journey, highlighting her transition from an independent member to joining the BJP under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. She expressed pride in her affiliation with the BJP and her continued membership in the august Lok Sabha. She emphasized her commitment to making the most of every moment spent in the institution.
Furthermore, Maneka Gandhi recognized the day as historic, particularly praising the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its efforts to rectify deep-rooted disparities and promote gender equality. She expressed her pride in being a part of this momentous occasion when the government, under PM Modi’s leadership, undertook to address gender imbalances.
Gandhi also highlighted her involvement in the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) initiative, initiated by the Prime Minister. She noted that within two years, the campaign had brought about a substantial and lasting change in the country, as supported by statistical data.
