Massive fire breaks out at oil refinery in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: Thick, dark plumes of smoke were seen after a fire broke out at a Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday. Soon after the fire broke out, a warning bell was sounded to make the employees evacuate the plant.

Fire engines were immediately rushed to the spot to douse the fire, according to reports.

“A blast was reported at Unit-3 plant in HPCL. Five fire tenders are present at the spot. More fire tenders are being rushed,” Divisional Commissioner of Police Aishwarya Rastogi told media.

The cause of the incident is not yet known, officials said.

No casualties have been reported till now.
