Massive Mundka fire: At least 27 Killed, 12 injured; building did not have fire NOC, owner absconding

New Delhi: In yet another incident, massive fire broke out in a four-storey commercial building in West Delhi’s Mundka on Friday evening. In which the death toll increases to 27 and 12 were injured and admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. 2 arrested in tragedy Many are still trapped. The building did not have a fire license and was told that the owner is absconding. According to the police, the owner has been identified as Manish Lakra.

The fire started from the first floor and spread to the other floors, the police said and added that around 60-70 people have been rescued from the building.

“We are searching for her (Yashoda Devi) but we didn’t find her. We got to know about the fire from one of my friends. We immediately reached here and looked for Yashoda everywhere, even in hospitals,” Govind, one of the family members told sources.

Meanwhile, DCP (Outer District) Sameer Sharma told the media that the help of a forensic team will be taken to identify the bodies.

“27 people have died and 12 are injured in the fire mishap. We will take the help of a forensic team to identify the bodies. The fire has been brought under control. No new body has been recovered (After 27 bodies),” said the DCP.

Sharma added that the owners of the CCTV cameras and router manufacturing company that was operating on the 1st floor of the building have been detained while an FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident.

The fire broke out on the 1st floor of the building which is an office of the company, said reports.

Police during the preliminary inquiry found out that the building did not have fire NOC while the owner of the building, who lived on the top floor of the building, has been absconding after the mishap.

Pm Modi and president expressed grief over tragedy:

“Police have detained company owners–Harish Goel and Varun Goel. The owner of the building has been identified as Manish Lakra. He is currently absconding and will be nabbed soon,” informed Sharma.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Officer of the Fire Department informed that there was only one staircase in the building, and because of that people could not move out of the building.

“We have recovered 27 bodies and rescued 12 injured people from the building. There was only one staircase and because of that people could not go out. I think the building did not have proper NOC from the fire department,” informed Satpal Bhardwaj, Divisional Officer of the Fire Department.

Meanwhile, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has reached the spot and carried out a search and rescue operation in the building.

The three-story commercial building was generally used for providing office space for companies, police said after a preliminary investigation.
