New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today appealed to the residents of the national capital to elect an honest and working person in the civic body elections today. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal tweeted just before the polling began, “Today is voting to make a clean and beautiful Delhi, voting is to make a corruption free government in the municipal corporation. To all Delhiites My appeal – go to cast your vote today to form an honest and working government in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.”

He further added, “Do not vote for the corrupt, goons and those using slangs. Do not vote for those turning Delhi into garbage. Vote for those who will make Delhi shine, keep it clean. Vote for those who work, not for those who block work.”

After merging the three municipal bodies of the national capital into one through the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2022, AAP has launched an all-out campaign against the BJP in the first civic polls. Over 1.45 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes to elect councilors for 250 wards. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia appealed to voters to vote for a clean and garbage-free city.

Speaking to sources, Manish Sisodia said that this vote will set the tone for proper maintenance of the national capital. The Deputy Chief Minister appealed to the residents to come out and vote, saying, “The weather is good. I appeal to the people to queue up and vote. Facing this minor inconvenience every day with heaps of garbage Better than waking up.”

Garbage has emerged as a major issue in this election. Chief Minister Kejriwal also visited the mountains of garbage in the national capital. AAP has launched an all-out campaign to wrest control of the civic body from the BJP. The BJP, despite being reduced to a single digit in the assembly, has retained its grip on the municipal administration. Like the BJP’s “Modi’s double engine”, AAP has given the slogan “Kejriwal’s government, Kejriwal’s corporator”. Both the parties are contesting the elections in the face of their top leaders.

The Congress, which has been struggling to regain its ground in Delhi since the rise of AAP, has fielded its candidates in 247 seats. To counter AAP’s campaign, the BJP has deployed top Union ministers led by Amit Shah for rallies in the national capital. The BJP has targeted the AAP over allegations of corruption against several AAP ministers including Manish Sisodia. Congress has also used them to take a jibe at you.
