New Delhi: MG Motor India on Monday launched its mid-size SUV, Astor, in the country with an introductory price of INR 9,78,000. Available in four variants of Style, Super, Smart and Sharp, the price range for the new model goes up to INR 16,78,000 (ex-showroom, India).

The five-seater model has been on display at MG showrooms from September 19, and bookings will begin on October 21. However, customers can pre-book it from today, the company said.

According to Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director, MG Motor India, the company is aiming at completing at least 5,000 deliveries of the Astor SUV in the calendar year 2021.

The company said it will offer the 3-3-3 ownership package on the new model, with 3 years of warranty as standard, roadside assistance and labour-free services.

The ownership cost of Astor is only 47 paise per kilometer, calculated up to one lakh kilometers. Astor also comes with the segment first 3-60 program, an assured buyback plan under which customers will get 60 percent of the Astor’s ex-showroom price on completion of three years of purchase. For the execution of program MG India has partnered with Cardekho and Astor customers can avail this separately, MG said.

The new SUV is based on the company’s global platform, ZS and comes with two engine options – the Brit Dynamic 220 TURBO petrol engine with a six-speed AT (automatic) delivering a 140ps of power and VTi Tech petrol engine with a manual transmission and an eight-speed CVT, delivering 110ps of power.

AI technology, six radars and five cameras equip the SUV to manage 14 advanced Autonomous Level 2 features, MG said.

It comes with a personal AI assistant and first-in-segment Autonomous (Level 2) technology. It will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq. Astor offers 27 standard safety features like ESP (electronic stability program), TCS (traction control system) and HDC (hill descent control).

Other features include six airbags, six-way power-adjustable driver seats, electric parking brake, heated ORVM, rain-sensing wiper, PM 2.5 filter, panoramic sky roof, rear AC vent and front and rear armrest,10.1-inch HD infotainment system and full digital cluster with 7-inch embedded LCD screen.
