Cuddalore: In the early hours of Sunday, August 28, the house of an assistant jailor was set on fire by some miscreants in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore. The family miraculously escaped the assault and survived. The accused poured petrol and set ablaze the house of Manikandan, an assistant jailor, inside the jailors’ quarters.
Manikandan’s wife was awakened from sleep in the wee hours of Sunday due to the smell of petrol. Manikandan had left his wife and two kids behind before leaving for his hometown.
Upon waking up, she saw two men pouring fuel through the kitchen window and was shocked. As Manikandan’s wife cried out for help the two culprits lit the fuel and escaped the place.
Manikandan’s wife, Bavya, and her children doused the fire with the help of the neighbours. However, the fire had gutted the kitchen.
According to the initial investigation, Manikandan’s team had recently seized mobile phones and other banned items from the prisoners at Cuddalore jail. After that, the culprits did all the planning for the attack.
The police found two more bottles of petrol left behind by the perpetrators. Further investigations are going on to catch other culprits who were involved in the case.
