In a significant move towards transparency and accountability, the Mizoram government has reinstated general consent for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe offences within the state. A gazette notification issued on Thursday highlighted the government’s decision, granting the CBI the authority to investigate cases under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946.
Mizoram Reinstates General Consent for CBI Investigations. The Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, expressed the government’s commitment to eliminating corruption for the benefit of citizens. He shared on social media platform X, “Committed to transparency and accountability….Our government is resolute in eliminating corruption for the welfare of our citizens.”
This marks a reversal of Mizoram’s previous stance, as the state had withdrawn its general consent to the CBI in July 2015. As per the provisions of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, the CBI requires the consent of the state government to investigate cases that occur within the territorial boundaries of the state. The renewed consent signifies a cooperative effort between the state and the investigative agency to address and combat criminal activities effectively.
