Money Laundering Case: ED arrests J’khand engineer Virendra Ram over ‘Irregularities’ in state department scheme

Jharkhand: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Chief Engineer Virendra Ram in the Rural Development Department of the Government of Jharkhand. After a long interrogation, the ED arrested Virendra Ram.

Jharkhand: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Chief Engineer Virendra Ram in the Rural Development Department of the Government of Jharkhand. Earlier on Tuesday, the ED had raided 24 places in the state. Raids were conducted at many locations including Ranchi associated with Virendra Ram. Virender has been arrested in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the implementation of some schemes.

The engineer was taken into custody under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after lengthy interrogation at the ED’s office in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi. On February 21, the ED conducted raids at Ranchi, Jamshedpur and some other places in Jharkhand, Bihar and Delhi.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on Virendra Ram’s premises continued for the second day in a row on Wednesday. The action started from 5 am on Tuesday morning. Virendra Ram has also revealed his relationship with many big personalities before the ED in the interrogation.

According to the information, Ram has got property worth 150 crores. Also, gold ornaments worth two crores have been recovered. ED is gathering information about where Chief Engineer Ram got so much money. ED has recovered a laptop and some PAN drives from Virendra Ram.

According to official sources, Virendra Ram was hesitant in his answers. The ED will now produce them in a local court on Thursday and seek custodial interrogation. The agency has also seized some luxury cars and SUVs from various premises, officials said.
