Bhopal: In yet another shocking incident that came to fore from Madhya Pradesh, a giant crocodile swallows a young boy, just 10-year-old in Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh. The crocodile attacked the boy when he was taking a bath in the Chambal river on Monday morning. The crocodile dragged the boy into the river.
The villagers have stuck bamboo in the jaws of the crocodile to open its mouth. People have kept this crocodile tied with a rope. The villagers are saying that they will not leave the crocodile until the child comes out. On Monday evening, an 8-year-old boy was taking a bath in the Chambal river near Raghunathpur police station area of Sheopur district. Then a giant crocodile pressed him in his jaws and went to the river. This incident was witnessed by many people firsthand.
Meanwhile, after receiving information about the incident, an alligator department team and a police team reached the spot. Both teams tried to rescue the crocodile from the clutches of the villagers. However, the boy’s family members didn’t agree to this till late evening. The family members of the 10-year-old were hoping that the child would be alive in the crocodile’s stomach. They demanded that they would release the crocodile only when it spewed out the child.
According to the Raghunathpur police station in-charge Shyam Veer Singh Tomar, “The boy went deep into the river while bathing. The villagers said that the child had been swallowed by a crocodile. Then they caught the crocodile using a net and sticks. The alligator department has started action in the matter.”
After persuasion by the police officials and the alligator department, the villagers released the crocodile.
Chambal in Madhya Pradesh is know for its National Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary. Also, this was not a first such incident in the region.
