Mumbai: On Sunday, An official said that two people were arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 19-year-old college student in a flat in the Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) quarter in the Chembur area of Mumbai. The incident reportedly incident occurred between 10 pm and 12.30 a.m. on the intervening night of November 15-16. Both accused have been sent to police custody till Monday.
A case was registered against them under sections 376, 376 (D), 328 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The first accused, identified as Ajit Kumar Yadav, 26, is the son of another BARC employee and lived in a flat near the victim’s father’s house. Police said he knew the victim, FPJ reports.
Police said that on the day of the incident, Ajit’s parents had gone out for the night and he invited his friend, Prabhakar Yadav (30), a Govandi resident, to his house. The police presented both the accused in the court, where the court sent both of them to police custody till November 20.
Giving information about this incident, The victim went to Ajit’s house to borrow some ingredients for cooking, where both of them gave her a bottle of intoxicating cold drink.
Police reportedly said the victim became unconscious after taking a few sips of the drink, following which the two men took turns to rape her. After the girl regained consciousness around 12:30 am, she realised what happened to her and ran to her flat. Later she informed about the incident to her few close friends living in the same building.
