Mumbai: In yet another tragic incident, 39-year-old woman jogger Rajalakshmi died after being hit by a speeding SUV in the early hours of Sunday. The incident took place at 6:30 am near Worli Dairy, located a few meters away from the Worli-Bandra Sealink. The deceased woman was a resident of Dadar-Matunga area. Police said that the driver has been arrested after the medical test. The driver has also been injured in this accident.
Police sources said the driver lost control of the car and hit Rajalakshmi, CEO of UltraTrust Technologies, causing the victim to fall down and the car hitting the divider. The woman died on the spot due to severe head injury. The collision was so strong that the woman jumped in the air and fell on the ground. The woman was taken to Nair Hospital but on reaching there the doctors declared her brought dead.
At the same time, the driver who was running at a high speed at the time of the incident has suffered minor injuries. The driver named 23-year-old Sumer Merchant has been arrested by the police. Sumer Merchant is a resident of Taddev area. However, the police confirmed that the arrested accused was not under the influence of alcohol.
The local people caught the driver and handed him over to the Worli police. The deceased Rajalakshmi was the CEO of UltraTrust Technology Company. She was a fitness freak and was also a part of a joggers group at Shivaji Park. The blood samples of the accused are pending and a case has been registered against him under the section for rash and negligent driving. Before hitting the woman, he lost control of the vehicle and hit the divider. Police is investigating further.
