Mumbai: 5 houses collapse after gas cylinder explosion, 11 rescued

Mumbai: On Wednesday, Fire officials said that Eleven people were rescued from under five houses in Chembur area of Mumbai which collapsed following a gas cylinder explosion. Some people were injured, they said without specifying the exact number.

Mumbai: On Wednesday, Fire officials said that Eleven people were rescued from under five houses in Chembur area of Mumbai which collapsed following a gas cylinder explosion. Some people were injured, they said without specifying the exact number.

The incident took place at 7.50 am at Old Barrack near Golf Club in Chembur area. The violent blast ripped through the houses situated in a narrow lane, trapping several residents under the debris.

A civic official said that a gas cylinder exploded in a house, leading to the collapse of four to five two-storey structures. Visuals from the spot show the destroyed buildings with collapsed staircases and balconies hanging in the air.

The fire department reached the spot and started a rescue operation. The official said that Eleven people were rescued from the collapsed houses. He added that so far four persons have been admitted to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi.

Dr Kedar, at Shatabdi Hospital said,”The injured have been identified as 50-year old Vikas Ambhore, 27-year-old Ashok Ambhore, Dr. Kedar, 47-year-old Savita Ambhore and 29-year-old Rohit Ambhore.”

Fire brigade, policemen and ambulance services are on the spot. The rescue operation is still on. Fire brigade, police, civic staff, ambulance service and other agencies were mobilised.
