Mumbai airport receives ’email threat’ to blow up T2, sender demands $1 million in Bitcoin in 48 hr

Mumbai: An official said that the Mumbai International Airport gets a 'threat email' to blow up Terminal 2 of Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Thursday. The sender of the email has demanded USD 1 million in Bitcoin within 48 hours to avert the blast.

Mumbai: An official said that the Mumbai International Airport received a email threat to blow up Terminal 2 of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Thursday. The sender has demanded USD 1 million in Bitcoin within 48 hours to avert the blast.

According to the Police, the Sahar Police have registered a case against an unknown person who sent a threatening email using the email address “quaidacasrol@gmail.com”. “Send me 1 million dollars in bitcoins to avert the blast at Terminal 2 of Mumbai International Airport. If failed, then there will be a blast at the airport within the next 48 hours” the email read.

The sender demanded a payment of one million dollars in the form of Bitcoin within the next 48 hours to avert the bomb blast. Police further said that the mail was sent to the feedback inbox of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) at around 11.06 am on Thursday.

The security was beefed up at the airport following the threat. MIAL officer Vismay Pathak in his complaint told the police, “I was at the quality and customer care center of the airport when I received the threatening email. The email threatened to blow up the airport within 48 hours if the ransom was not paid.

According to the sources, The police have traced the IP address from which the threatening email was sent and are currently working to identify the individual responsible. A case under the Indian Penal Code sections 385 (putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion) and 505 (1) (b) (statements made with intent to cause fear or alarm to the public or against the public tranquillity) has been registered against an unknown person. Further investigation is underway.
