Mumbai gear up for mega march by maratha groups

MUMBAI: Mumbai will be ‘silent’ today with the Maratha Kranti Morcha in the foray. Lakhs of the politically strong community prepared for their first, largest and last but not the least huge mook morcha’ (silent procession) in order to demand reservations in jobs and education in Mumbai.

Begin since August 9, 2016, with processions in 57 different cities, the Maratha Kranti Morcha made its maiden entry in Mumbai and completed the year-long campaign through processions by giving memo to CM Devendra Fadnavis.

The state government, BMC and police were fully charged up since the past 24 hours as participants starting coming in from different parts of Maharashtra.

While the authorities thinks that there are going to be 500,000-800,000 Marathas from across the state, the organisers are expecting a much bigger audience.

According to the sources, the procession will begin marching from Byculla, without any sort of political speeches and terminate at the historic Azad Maidan.

Though there are lots of demands, the focus will be on education and job reservations for the Maratha community members.

The Mumbai Police is fully prepared with more than 7,000 personnel, including commandos and armed police.
