Mumbai police arrested 6 people for smuggling diesel worth Rs 18 lakh

Mumbai: The Yellow Gate Police arrested six people, including sailors, on charges of trying to smuggle diesel in a boat near Sewri Jetty in Mumbai via the Arabian Sea. Police seized 19,500 liters of diesel worth Rs 18 lakh. Mumbai Police gave this information.

Mumbai: The Yellow Gate Police arrested six people, including sailors, on charges of trying to smuggle diesel in a boat near Sewri Jetty in Mumbai via the Arabian Sea. Police seized 19,500 liters of diesel worth Rs 18 lakh. Mumbai Police gave this information.

After prime investigation, Mumbai Police said,”The matter was first reported by the coastal guard officers who, on the night of November 15, noticed an unknown boat on the Arabian Sea.” After inquiring, they found the deck storage fuel tank filled with diesel and there were six people inside the boat.

Further investigation revealed that six individuals, five of whom were sailors, had used the pipeline to illegally transport fuel to another location. After this incident, the coastal guard officers immediately informed the police, who shortly reached the spot and took over the investigation.

According to the information, Police found 19,500 liters of diesel in those fuel decks, whose market value is Rs 18 lakh. The boat they used for smuggling is worth up to Rs 3 lakh and other items found inside the boat have been seized by the police.

The first accused has been identified as Mahendra Koli. He was 53-year-old a resident of Raigad district, who owns the boat. According to the police report, the other five accused are all sailors. They were identified as Rajendra Ganju, 34, from Jharkhand, Gurunath Koli, 50, from Raigarh, Iftikhar Ishq, 35, from Bihar, Chhotu Turi, 29, from Jharkhand and Ashraf Ali, 40, from West Bengal. The police officer said that Further investigation is underway to ascertain their destination of smuggling.
