Paris: Rafael Nadal is on the verge of writing another chapter in the ongoing French Open tennis tournament. The 36-year-old Spaniard advanced to the final of the Roland Garros for the 14th time, where he will face Casper Ruud for the title on Sunday.

Alexander Zverev, the opponent of Nadal in the semifinal, could not continue his match and retired hurt with an ankle injury. Nadal was trailing 2-4 in the first set but came back like a roaring tiger and snatched the first set 7-6 (10/8), while in the second set, both players were tied at 6-6, then the German left the court citing injury.

The second semifinal between Casper Ruud and Marin Cilic was interrupted by a protestor who tied herself to the net while the third set was in progress on Friday night. Both players had to ask to leave the court and remained off the court for about 10 minutes. Later, she was removed from the court, and play once again resumed.

Casper Ruud was the first Norwegian man to reach the finals of any Grand Slam. He defeated his Croatian compatriot in four sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, and 6-2. After losing the first set, Rudd came back with more determination and clinched the match relatively easily in Paris last night.

After two weeks of gruelling tennis at the Ronald Garros, only two players remain in the women’s singles to go for the title clash today.

At first glance, it appears that former French Open champion and world number one Iga Swiatek of Poland is a firm favourite against her teenage American sensation, Coco Gauff.

Iga Swiatek, 21, is in tremendous form and her 34-match winning streak tells the story. The Pole has outclassed her opponents in all the matches except one against Zheng Qinwen in the fourth round. She had to sweat on the court during this encounter and dropped a set as well.

Coco Gauff has not dropped a single set on her journey to the final. The 18-year-old American is ready to quash the world’s number one supreme form to lift her maiden Grand Slam title.

Gauff is also in the doubles final. She and her fellow American, Jessica Pegula, are ready to take on French wildcards Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic in the title clash on Sunday.
