Mumbai: The break up rumours of actress Nargis Fakhri and actor-producer Uday Chopra became talk of the town during the release of her 2016 film ‘Azhar’. Much was written in media about the separation of the two and how the break up impacted the actress who returned to her home country, post her fight with Uday.
Though what happened between the two is still not known to the world but years after their breakup, Nargis finally spilled the beans on her relations with Uday. In a recent media interview, the 41-year-old actress said that she was told to keep their relationship hidden from the media and their fans.
In her interview, Nargis said that Uday is a ‘beautiful soul’ and that she regrets not speaking about him from ‘mountain tops’. “Uday and I dated for 5 years and he was the most beautiful human I met in India. I never have said this to the press as people told me to keep my relationship quiet, but I regret that because I should have shouted from the mountain tops that I was with such a beautiful soul. The internet and social media is very fake and the people out there won’t know what the truth is. Most often we idolise certain people who are actually bad behind closed doors.”
Reports of them dating started surfacing around 2014, however, the two denied it every time. Back in the time, Nargis had even said: “I am repeating myself: Uday and I aren’t dating each other. But he will always remain a part of my life. I have very few friends in India, and I feel fortunate that he’s one of them.”
The couple broke up at the end of 2017 and soon after their separation, Nargis left for her home country, New York. Sources close to the actress claimed that she had suffered a nervous breakdown after Uday decided against tying the knot with her and left the country due to the heartbreak. A source was quoted in the same portal as saying, “While she promoted a few events, she completely lost interest mid-way and two days ago, left the country. She has flown off to New York, leaving ‘Azhar’, ‘Housefull 3’ mid-way and the schedule of ‘Banjo’ incomplete. She has ditched the producers there, too, leaving them high and dry.”
However, her spokesperson said that it was due to health issues. “Nargis has been extremely overworked working on three films simultaneously over the last year. Schedules and intense work hours that film-making demands are not something everyone can cope with. Even though she was advised complete rest, she ensured she completed everything she had committed to for Azhar,” her spokesperson had said.
It was learned that Nargis has currently been dating American chef Justin Santos for quite some time. Before that, the ‘Rockstar’ star broke up with her Hollywood filmmaker-video editor boyfriend, Matt Alonzo, in January 2020. In May 2018, she had confirmed her relationship with Matt and had posted pictures with him on her Instagram.
The Kingfisher Calendar girl, Nargis Fakhiri, who had a successful modelling career at that time, attracted the attention of filmmaker Imtiaz Ali. He signed her for his next ‘Rockstar’ which became a launching pad for Nargis in Bollywood. She later appeared in the biopic of famous Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, titled ‘Azhar’. She made her Hollywood debut with ‘Spy’. Nargis was last seen in Hindi film ‘Torbaaz’ along with Sanjay Dutt.
Nargis is also known for her work in ‘Madras Cafe’, ‘Main Tera Hero’, ‘Housefull 3’, Phata Poster Nikla Hero’, ‘Kick’, ‘Saagasam’, ‘Dishoom’, ‘Banjo’ among many others.
Whereas, Uday Chopra made his debut with his brother Aditya Chopra’s ‘Mohabattein’. He then starred in ‘Dhoom’ series of movies with Abhishek Bachchan.
