Heavy rains triggered massive landslides in the violence-hit northeastern state of Manipur. Officials said on Thursday (August 17) that rains triggered a landslide in Noney district, blocking the Imphal-Silchar National Highway. At least 500 trucks are stranded as the National Highway is blocked.
The landslide occurred on Wednesday between Irang and Awangkhul Part 2, Khongsang and Awangkhul and Rangkhui villages on National Highway 37, he said. Officials said work is underway to clear the road and resume traffic movement. He said that the landslide occurred due to incessant rains for the last few days.

Efforts are currently underway to minimize the disruption caused by the landslide, with diligent evacuation operations actively underway. A senior police officer monitoring the situation confirmed that normal traffic would be allowed to resume as soon as the complete evacuation work is successfully completed.
Landslide happened last year as well
Let us tell you that in June last year, there was a huge landslide at a railway construction site in Noney district, in which at least 61 people were killed. The landslide occurred on June 30 at the Tupul railway yard construction site of the Jiribam-Imphal railway line
