Members of the banned CPI (Maoist) detonated explosives, blowing up a portion of the railway tracks between Manoharpur and Goilkera in Jharkhand. The incident unfolded within the jurisdiction of the Goilkera police station, causing a significant disruption to train services along the crucial Howrah-Mumbai route.
The blast has led to a halt in train operations on the Howrah-Mumbai route, prompting authorities to initiate repair work on the damaged tracks. West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police, Ashutosh Sekhar, confirmed the ongoing repair efforts and assured that train services would resume promptly.
The incident occurred during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, specifically between Goilkera and Posoita railway stations, approximately 150 km from the state capital Ranchi.
The incident coincides with the ongoing ‘protest week’ observed by the banned outfit since the previous Saturday. Additionally, the Maoists had called for a pan-India bandh on Friday, adding a layer of complexity to the security situation.
To address the heightened security concerns in the affected locality, authorities have implemented tightened security measures.
While disruptions persist, the concerted efforts of authorities are focused on repairing the damaged railway tracks and swiftly resuming train services. The incident underscores the challenges posed by Maoist activities in certain regions.
