NCB seizes 60 grams of MDMA containing 125 tablets, arrested two persons

Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai on Saturday seized 60 grams of MDMA containing 125 tablets and arrested two persons in this connection, officials informed on Saturday.

The NCB said that the drugs are worth Rs 5 crore in the international markets. “In an intensified drive against international drug trafficking, NCB-Mumbai has successfully busted a darknet-based syndicate, seizing 125 MDMA tablets, commonly known as Ecstasy Pills And two distributors have been arrested, who were operating from Mumbai. The consignment of drugs was brought in. The press release states that it was purchased from the Netherlands and through a darknet market.

“Initially, information was received about a Mumbai-based network involved in smuggling of high-value drugs purchased from online platforms. Vigilant and low-profile surveillance of the entities was carried out, which led to N. Salvi and S. Shukla who was supplying MDMA to Mumbai and surrounding areas.During further enhanced surveillance, it was found that the persons were planning to buy a consignment.

The NCB further said that these medicines are usually procured from European countries, hence special emphasis was laid on checking the parcels which were headed towards Mumbai.

“Since MDMA and other high-value drugs are mainly procured from foreign destinations, especially Netherlands and other European countries, special emphasis was laid on suspicious patterns, transactions and checking of parcels headed towards Mumbai.

A parcel was identified on 19 April. When Mumbai was investigated, 125 MDMA tablets were found in it. Preliminary investigation indicates that the two identified persons were the main recipients of the seized parcels. Subsequent follow-up action led to the arrest of both and after a brief interrogation session, they confessed to their involvement in drug trafficking,” it said.

The NCB also informed that it is probing the payment process used to procure the drugs. “During the course of investigation, evidence was recorded relating to illegal drug market access, purchase and payment transactions. It is pertinent to mention that due to anonymity and fuzzy financial trails, drug payments through darknet are using cryptocurrencies ,” NCB said.
