Today on Tuesday NCP leader Anil Deshmukh gets bail from Bombay HC in Money laundering case.
Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has got bail from the Bombay High Court. Deshmukh got bail on a surety amount of Rs 1 lakh. Anil Deshmukh had sought bail in the alleged 100 crore scam case. Deshmukh’s bail application was heard by the Bombay High Court last week following the Supreme Court’s order. Where after hearing the arguments of both the sides, on Tuesday (October 4) the court has given its decision.
Although Anil Deshmukh has been granted bail in the case registered by the ED, he will remain in custody in connection with the case registered against him by the CBI. Anil Deshmukh was arrested in November last year and had approached the Bombay High Court earlier this year after a special PMLA court rejected his bail application.
He did not get any relief from the High Court and his bail plea was pending in the Bombay High Court for almost 8 months. After this, on September 26, the matter of bail of Anil Deshmukh was also heard in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had expressed displeasure over the Bombay High Court keeping the bail petition pending.
The Supreme Court had asked the Bombay High Court to hear Anil Deshmukh’s bail plea within a week and decide on it expeditiously. After which the Bombay High Court heard the bail plea of Anil Deshmukh. At the same time, today he has got bail from the Bombay High Court.
There were allegations against Deshmukh that as the Home Minister of Maharashtra, he had misused the position for personal gain. The ED had allegedly made a case of illegal bribery of Rs 4.7 crore and extorted money from traders in Mumbai. Deshmukh was first registered by the CBI and then the ED investigated from the angle of money laundering.
