Mumbai: Supriya Sule, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, on Tuesday lashed out at the ruling parties in Maharashtra for not showing any respect to women. Not a single woman was included in the Eknath Shinde-led cabinet, which took oath yesterday.
Overall, 18 MLAs—nine each from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena—took oath as cabinet ministers at a function held at Raj Bhavan.
Talking to media persons, Sule said it was “unfortunate and shocking” that not a single woman got a chance in the cabinet expansion of Maharashtra. No women’s representation It is a truth that is difficult to digest.
Without revealing the name of state BJP president Chandrakant Patil, she said many times BJP leaders have given statements that women should look after the kitchen. It seems they are following their words.
In May, Patil urged Sule to “go home and cook.” He later said he meant no disrespect to women.
Earlier, CM Eknath Shinde had a meeting with Shiv Sena legislators at the Sahyadri guest house in South Mumbai to keep calm those MLAs who were not added to the cabinet this time.
